You Can't Stand Me Now is Can't Stand Me Now with some alternate lyrics. Pipey Macgregor is another inventive title for the 2004 released Monkey Casino. If You Fall is sometimes listed as “Dalliance”. Curtain Call & If You Fall together would later become A’rebours.
"Scouser In Space" is just the producers voice Gary Murphy (guitarist from “The Bandits”), lots of reverb making him sound like he’s in a sci-fi film / out of space, over the P.A..
From Q Magazine, September issue 2007 interview with Peter:
“What point did you start to think you were any good?
Maybe when I was getting the same feeling from things that I wrote that I was getting from other people's songs. Albion. When I wrote Albion, probably.
Do you write every day?
I dunno if I write well every day, but I write every day. I have to. Normally I just flick on one of these things (points to Q's dictaphone) or a laptop. Just playing and playing and then a month or two later I'll listen back to what I've done and think, "Fucking hell. There's something in there somewhere".
Your songs don't come fully formed then?
Not always. Sometimes they can gestate for years.
What about lyrics - is it a case of grabbing a pen and writing on anything when the moment strikes?
Yeah. Me leg's been covered in biro many a time (rolls up trouser leg revealing pale, hairy skin but no biro). But I'm quite precious about my writing. Like, I've got scrap and things... (gets up and scrambles over to retrieve a notebook from his satchel, then sits back down and opens a book at page with a couple of spider scrawls) This started with me going (sings a cappella) "Torn torn torn torn. Torn torn torn torn" (stops singing) That's all I had for ages and then... (grabs guitar from side of chair and proceeds to sing and strum) "Torn torn torn torn. Da dee, dah dah" (stops playing). And then I'll play it to somebody and say, "Hey, listen to this, it's an old Velvet Underground song". I pretend someone else has written it. And then I go, (resumes singing) "Torn torn torn torn / Torn torn torn torn / Torn between two lives / La la la... (membles something about a ghost ship) Torn, da dee dah dah".”

14 May 2004 - Peter Doherty is admitted to The Priory, London for drug rehabilitation by Alan McGee.
Notes : From NME Magazine 29 May 2004 “Bandmate, Carl Barat has been paying regular visits to The Priory, and along with other friends took Doherty a selection of NME readers‘ letters of support with them. On his first visit last Tuesday (May 18), Barat took Pete a present of Queens Park Rangers FC swimming trunks and a towel so they could go swimming together in the private pool. Doherty is a lifelong QPR fan and used to write a club fanzine “All quiet on the western avenue. However, outside visiting hours, Doherty‘s time in The Priory has been an emotional and physical rollercoaster.” The guitarist spent the early part of the week communicating with fans via his laptop, posting on his website www.babyshambles.com”
Doherty wrote “the doctors and nurses have said my constitution is a marvel of modern scienece. The detox programme I‘m on is capable of bringing the entire Russian Olympic team to its knees. I do believe the worst is yet to come, so it‘s either make a break for it now or bite the pillow time” “Very deranged and murky recollection for the last few days. A gaggle of nurses around my crinkly bed, they all jump as I wake up and yelp something about jelly. Then I notice a needle sticking out of my arm and spots of blood. What the fuck is going on? Vomit and shrieks, some girl warbling down the corridor in a towel. I have so many days past, what has happened?”
“Evidence of self harm upon my skinny person but nothing could be further from my mind as I awake brighter tailed and bushier eyed than I have done for many a year. Yes children, the deliriums and catawailings are giving in to well, Peter Doherty, whoever the fuck that may be.”
“I‘m definitely steadier on my feet and shall have a little exploration of this clean place, which is probably full of celebrities in towelling robes. Enough to make anyone give up crack and smack. Still on heavy detox tablature. I‘ve decided to give this crackless life a crack so adieu…a stroll around the ground is in order”

From Q Magazine, September issue 2007 interview with Peter:
“Literature is still a big influence on your songs?
Yeah. Titles are almost the be all and end all of the song. I've got reams and reams of scribbled titles that have never been used. I'm always checking them. 32nd Of December, I had that as a title for so long. It's had so many shapes and sizes and curlies. I could have a whole album of 32nd Of Decembers. What's the perfect song? It all depends on the time of the day and what you're wearing.”

02 August 2004 - Barfly, Camden, London # Peter Doherty Solo Acoustic Show *No Show
Notes: From NME 14 August 2004 “NME have been flooded with leters from angry devotees since Doherty failed to show up for two paid for gigs last week (August 2-3)” “Doherty arrived at 11pm, after the support band had played, but as our exclusive pictures show he had an altercation with a bouncer, which led to him storming away from the venue and playing a free show at his flat instead”
Peter tried to bring in some fans for free, but the bouncer would only let Peter into the venue.
“The following day, Doherty blamed the bouncer for the cancellation “We have played at venues up and down the country on this tour, some of which had no security, and have encountered no problems or witnessed any aggression. I was very upset at his attitude although I‘m very sorry for letting everyone down last night”” “Fan Matt Hewett tells a different story. He claimed “He was speaking to someone from the vnue and someone shouted “You‘re late enough, you selfish fucker”. He turned to a guy who looked remarkably like Jesus and said “I‘ll do it in my flat”. A few of his little entourage said things like “Great idea, Pete” and generally were happy for this to happen. With that he hopped to his car with about six other people in the back and fucked off back.””
“As NME went to press, Doherty had pledged to play a show at London‘s Shoreditch Great Eastern Hotel as part of Wadestock 2004 Beach Party - with free entry for anybody with proof of purchase for the Monday show (02 August 2004 - Barfly, Camden, London).”
“Meanwhile, organisers were insisting that a second Barfly show, set for Friday August 6, would definitely go ahead as planned.”
“But postings on THELIBERTINES.ORG suggest that Doherty has not taken the fans‘ criticism oh him very well. He ranted :
“You certainly find out who your friends are in times of trouble and right now it‘s clear there are many who just can‘t wait for me to fall and appear to be a flakey junkie, unreliable and fucked up on drugs. The fact is that there was no in heaven or hell I could have played the Barfly gig - I’ll eek (sic) out all of the gits until I can be sure I‘m playing to a crowd who trust me, believe in me, and don‘t turn on me at the first chance they get. You want clockwork, amoral live music? There‘s plenty of that about. What I did I did for you, and the response is quite heartbreaking.”

03 August 2004 - Scala, King’s Cross, London # Peter Doherty Solo Acoustic Show *No Show

From Q Magazine, September issue 2007 interview with Peter:
Is sadness a good muse?
Even if I'm feeling blank or not particualrly feeling happy or sad, suddenly a song will come out and it'll suddenly occur to me that's how I really feel. It's better than any therapy or any conversation. You just hit something on the head and it captures a mood. Like Well I Wonder by the Smiths. I used to put that on, especially the 7-inch (it was the b-side of How Soon Is Now) where you'd hear all the crackles and then the drumbeat and then... (starts to hum Well I Wonder). Just that mood.

Gangs Of Gin
Notes : CD is sent to Zane Lowe Session BBC Radio 1 Studios in London as an exclusive for the show.
The studio recording was never released on a single or LP due to legal issues and the band were never happy with the final recording.
Gang of Gin (previously Victory Gin) is a Babyshambles track, that was recorded during the sessions for their second single, Killamangiro, as Doherty was no longer permitted to play with The Libertines. The lyrics of Gang of Gin tell how "Carl and McGee both promised me / It would not happen this way" and of "McGee doing all he can to ruin my band." The track was intended to be included as a B Side to Killamangiro; however, Alan McGee threatened that if Doherty released the track he would take legal action. Gang of Gin was leaked onto the internet via the now closed www.thelibertines.co.nr, so it could still be downloaded by fans.
From NME Magazine 15 September 2007 Burn The (Alternative) Best Of Pete Doherty article “Babyshambles (Pete Doherty, Patrick Walden, Drew McConnell, Gemma Clarke line up) Recorded: With Paul Epworth at a studio overlooking Kensal Green Cemetery. What’s It Like : Originally intended as a B-Side to “Killamangiro”, it was never released at the lyrics contain a scathing attack on Carl Bara and Libertines manager Alan McGee… Where to find it: www.albionarks.com ”

Pipey McGraw would go on to become Monkey Casino but at this moment the song is still very different and includes an introduction (unlike released version of Monkey Casino). An early performance of Arebours, at the time it was known as If I Fall.

After Back From The Dead Peter passes round a book for everyone to sign, but I don’t think he ever saw it again. I Love You (But You’re Green) is just played with acoustic guitars. Things got so bad that the rest of the band walked off stage” “Pete played about four songs before the guitarist stormed off. Pete looked bemused and the rest of the band members decided to leave the stage. He played a couple of Libertines songs on his guitar and carried on. But a member of their road crew was buzzing around him on stage after every song trying to get him off. After about half an hour of the set someone came on and eventually dragged him offstage in a headlock to a chorus of boos.” “"When they came back on the crowd were really angry. They were throwing bottles at the stage and shouting abuse but the band carried on and played a couple of songs including 'Killamangiro'. The band went offstage again and Doherty followed them shortly after.” “Pete came back at about midnight, he started playing a few Libertines tracks and he seemed to come round again. They tried to get him off again. But Pete tore his T-shirt off and dived into the crowd. He then climbed on the speakers. He was going mad. He didn't have a clue what he was doing.”

Peter and Patrick scuffle onstage. No-one is harmed. Fans Say “Andrew Kendall” : “Well to me it didn't seem that significant or that serious, the first odd thing that I saw was near the start of the gig Peter picked up the microphone stand and threw it at Drew, while he did it they both kept smiling which was also true of both Pat and Peter during the entirety of their scuffle, not in my mind the faces of people who are genuinely fighting. Although I was there I didn't see any guitar cable being unplugged, not to say that didn't happen, just that I wasn't aware of it. What I was aware of was the increased pushing and shoving between Pat and Peter which eventually escalated into them rolling around on the floor before Pete's security, James Mullord and various others from the side of the stage intervened to break them apart.”

I think they were there to make sure he didn‘t run off, but they‘d be sat in the next room while we were playing and drinking tea, discussing how many people they‘d killed in the Gulf War. That was pretty weird. ”
From UNCUT January 2006 “First there was his faintly worrying claim that Down In Albion was intended to be a three act story retelling the familiar sounding tale of “boy meets girl. From UNCUT January 2006 “UNCUT : How was it working with Mick Jones ? Drew McConnell : Mick’s good at getting his own way, but he does it very subtly. We‘d play everything live four or five times and Mick would pick what he thought was the most exciting take. Sometimes we‘d do something that was quite loose or had a few mistakes in but Mick didn‘t really care. We‘d be panicking and feeling we were ruining this album that we have to live with for the rest of our lives, but he‘d just smile and say “Boys, boys, boys, it‘s fine…”“
From Daily Music Guide.COM 4 January 2008
“Adam Ficek Interview -
What was it like working with a man like Mick Jones, with such a creative history?
Adam: I think with most people when you get to meet someone you know as personality all that pre-history goes out the window. You start to look at them as a human being rather than someone you might have held in a different kind of light. Yeah, so yeah I mean it was great and we’re all fans of The Clash, but as soon as you get to know Mick you forget about all that pretence and you just get on with them as a normal producer or a friend.

“Adam Ficek Interview -
Which of your previous two albums do you prefer?
Adam: They’re both kind of...it’s like two children, isn’t it? You can’t have a favourite! Down in Albion was a picture of where we were at at the time. Shotter's Nation is a slightly more glossy picture of where we were at at the time. I think the songs were more formed during Shotter's Nation, but then Down in Albion’s got a certain raw chant to it which I think is going to be quite timeless. So I don’t know, they’re both loved for different reasons. “

Notes : The band were late onstage (according to fans he was an hour late but looking at the stage times they were only half an hour late). Before launching into La Belle Et La Bete Peter announced “The doctor said I’ve got swollen glands, I’m not supposed to sing for two weeks…”.
Drew plays the bass line to She's Lost Control whilst the band start The Man Who Came To Stay. Peter sings a few lines of The Stone Roses songs before launching into an energetic Killamangiro.
During Killamangiro Peter goes to the fans at the barricade but he is nearly dragged into the crowd. The band carry on until they see Peter is in trouble with a few fans. Mick goes into the crowd to help Peter as Adam and Drew carry on. Peter then sings “Who‘s A Bully Boy?” referring to the angry fan. The fan was holding onto Peter and wouldn‘t let go without a fight, the fan was not thrown out and stayed at the front of the barricade throughout the set and occasionally chanted towards Peter.
Before Albion Pete sang a local anthem, with a twist, “oh Manchester, is wonderful, its full of headlocks and kicks in the bollocks…”.
Peter Doherty was celebrating his birthday and played the bass on The Jam / The Beatles cover.
The lights were turned on and the P.A. went off after Sticks And Stones as the venues curfew was up. The band carried on and played I Wish, although most of the fans were leaving. The house music came on but the band kept playing until the end of the song, dedicated fans flocked to the front of the stage to hear the band whilst others left.

May 2006 - Rough Trade end contract with Babyshambles but offer Peter Doherty a solo deal.
Notes : From Teletext Interview 23 September 2007 by John Earls :
Adam Ficek “"They offered Peter a solo deal, but not one with Babyshambles,” says Adam. "That was really disappointing and insulting. We were drifting at that point, as we didn’t have a manager. In a way, it would have been easier to go under. None of us wanted to, and the only answer was for me to manage us.” ”

Back From The Dead / Loyalty Song / Arcady / Pipedown / I Love You (But You're Green) / Killamangiro / What A Waster / What Katie Did / Arebours / I Wish / The Blinding / Time For Heroes / La Belle Et La Bête / Bollywood To Battersea / Beg, Steal Or Borrow / Merry Go Round / Why Did You Break My Heart - Piracy / Sticks & Stones / Stone Me What A Life / Fuck Forever
Notes : Unusual set featuring newer songs and a nice mix of Libertines tracks too. Note that The Blinding E.P. had not been released or even recorded yet, so many of the songs are still unfinished or vary from the released versions.
Before starting Loyalty Song Peter sings a few lines of “A Long Way To Tipperary (Traditional song)” and announces “we‘ve had one of our guitars nicked”.
Arcady in a more favourable composition than the Peter Doherty LP released version.
I Love You (But You're Green) is in a slower and more gentle composition. I Wish is longer and again better than the E.P. Version. The Blinding is longer with extended intro and outro. Beg, Steal Or Borrow is different to the Get Loaded Demo recording. Stone Me is longer and sounds more rougher than the Delivery B-Side recording.

What’s It Like : The final version on the blinding e.p. has an infectious beauty that suggests it should have been a single in its own right. This take, by contrast to the rest of the session sounds wonderfully intimate, almost like stumbling into the band’s rehearsal studio. Babyshambles spokesman Jon Bills didn't deny the figure, but told us, "We can confirm the band are signed to us but we can't comment on how much the deal was worth."”

From NME Magazine 15 September 2007 Burn The (Alternative) Best Of Pete Doherty article “
Needle Of Death (featuring Bert Jansch) - Pete Doherty, Bert Jansch. Recorded: Hackney Empire (at An Evening with Pete Doherty). What’s It Like : Although the two evenings at the London theatre were overshadowed by the extraordinary reunion of Pete with Carl Barat, it birthed one other magnificent collaboration. On both nights Pete sang this bruised elegy to heroin with 60’s folk legend Bert Jansch. Perhaps Pete’s finest recorded vocal performance yet. Where to find it: www.youtube.com tagged as Doherty Hackney Needle. There are good MP3s f you hunt around too”

The five song set was organised by Myspace and was an invite only performance.

Pete Doherty and his cohorts were meant to be onstage at 3.30, but didn’t appear until 4.15pm, which led to slow handclapping for the capacity crowd. When the band did appear, they launched into a five-song set which included ‘Fuck Forever’, ‘Killamangiro’, ‘Albion’, ‘Back From The Dead’ and ‘The Blinding’. After the set finished Doherty threw a speaker and a drumkit into the crowd before disappearing. “ During The Blinding Peter dives into the crowd.
Footage of the show appeared on myspace and included fan interviews, sound check excerpts and gig footage too.

Notes: Footage of was released on Professor Ro’s Youtube account. From 21 June 2007 Metro review “Couple’s second run at ‘KP Nuts’ on Youtube. Pete Doherty and Kate Moss could be aiming for a top ten hit, after a releasing a second acoustic version of their homemade duet on YouTube. It is the second time the couple have issued a performance of the ‘KP Nuts’ track, following their first leaked video shot at Moss’s Cotswold home back in April. During the song Moss joins in with Doherty shouting: ‘Rot in jail you c**t’ continuing, ‘rot, rot, rot in there forever.’ She finishes off telling him: ‘Don’t la, la, la me you c**t.’ A sign then flashes up to hint the couple will be back again shortly, saying: ‘THAT’S NOT ALL FOLKS’In the new video they dress up in bright red British Military costumes with Moss waving a Union Jack around the background. Again, like last time they distance their performance from Sony and Cher singing, ‘Sonny and Cher we’re not.’

21 June 2007 - Peter Doherty & Kate Moss relationship status update and extracts from Peter’s diary are published.
Notes: From Metro review “Meanwhile, Pete has revealed he plans to marry the supermodel this summer providing he is “smack and needle-free”. The Babyshambles singer, who is battling heroin and crack cocaine addiction, makes the revelation in his newly published diaries. The diaries – extracts from which are in today’s Times – give an insight into his tempestuous relationship with Moss and detail their violent rows. He writes during a spell in rehab earlier this year that “smack and needle-free we shall marry in the summer and I become 10 times happier than any given smackhead. Huzzah!” In his rambling diary entries, Doherty tells of his love for the model, who has a four-year-old daughter by magazine boss Jefferson Hack. “For single mothers everywhere in love with crackheads, you are a shining light of hope,” he says. Doherty describes an argument which took place on the Eurostar from Paris to London in July 2005: “Kate and I f and fighting all the way on the Eurostar until finally blood runs down my palm and up my head, and before I leg it to oblivion leaving her at the station calling me a this, that and the other and a so-and-so (accompanied by hand gestures)…” Many of their rows appear to be about his drug addiction – and his habit of sitting in the potting shed of her house in the Cotswolds. “My dear sweet love would appear to be in somewhat of a rage perhaps due to my being decamped to the potting shed,” he writes. He also claims Moss booted him out after a holiday in Thailand – believed to be the New Year trip in which they reportedly took part in a commitment ceremony. “I have been informed that my behaviour reached an all-time low during the recent visit to Thailand,” he writes, adding that their relationship has become “an unbearable and intolerable disaster”. In a second entry he admits: “I have been banging up I confess, and yet my use is extremely moderate and controlled. What am I saying? Kate will not tolerate this s , I wouldn’t blame her, and alongside the fixing neither of us seem to completely trust each other although I love her and no other and the tiffs and tumults come between magical happy times. The most cherished times are spent in her arms.” The diaries also feature an entry written by Moss, in which she tells Doherty: “You have touched my heart and soul… You make me high, my sweet, my skin shivers and longs to be held by you.””

“Adam Ficek Interview -
What was it like playing Glastonbury earlier this year?
Adam: Shit! I hate playing Glastonbury Festival. I don’t like it. I think Glastonbury’s got really corporate, I don’t think it’s actually got the essence of why it started. The tickets are overpriced and it’s turned into a real corporate affair. I’m not saying it’s shit; it’s great to play any big festival and there’s gonna be a lot of fans there - we appreciate that. But I think the true essence of that free spirited, almost hippy festival; it’s gone out the window with that festival now.

Notes :From Daily Music Guide.COM 4 January 2008 “Adam Ficek Interview -
So what’s your ideal festival? Adam: If I could play any festival it would probably be something like the Green Man; something which is more traditional. There were some places in Glastonbury which were really good, like the acoustic stage Peter played the following day. It was much better, because you’ve got real music fans up there and people are there just to have a good time rather than come, scratch their chins, and have a dirty weekend – get muddy and take loads of drugs – then go back to their City jobs on the Monday. I think that’s what it’s turned in to…”

04 July 2007 - Peter Doherty & Kate Moss’ relationship ends.
Notes: From Q Magazine, September issue 2007 “The day before Q interviewed him, news broke that he'd ended his on-off relationship with supermodel Kate Moss and was living in a caravan beneath a dual carriageway.”
From Q Magazine, September issue 2007 interview with Peter:
“So songwriting is your means of finding love?
Hmm... (grimace) I thought so, but really the one or two people that I thought I was in love with, they've never really been big fans of my music. In a way it's good because you know that they're not with you just because they like your music, but it's sad. Everything you do at a certain time in your life, no matter what the song's about, all the energy is really directed towards that one person. Whatever that was for Carl. Or for Kate. Or for someone else I fell in love with.
Kate didn't actually like your songs?
No. It was always a bit of a choker.”
From Observer Music Monthly, Sunday Issue, 14 October 2007 :
“He once said of his ex: 'A lot of people basically are obsessed with the missus and I don't know why really ... she's just a bird from South London.'”

05 July 2007 - Peter is interviewed at Boogaloo Bar, London
Notes: Interview with full band is recorded and released for Promo CD distribution. Q Magazine interview Peter solo and publish the interview in the September issue. The band later play ana exclusive show which is recorded and partially released on the Shotter’s Nation Deluxe DVD Edition.
From Q Magazine, September issue 2007 “Thursday 5 July 2007, it's business as usual: business being a secret Babyshambles show in North London pub The Boogaloo. He arrives a mere two hours late, carrying a guitar, a beautiful young girl with a dark bobbed haircut in tow. He immediately stalks over to greet barely alive Pogues singer Shane McGowan, the Boogaloo's resident barfly who's already fallen off his stool twice this afternoon, before disappearing to the flat upstairs. Five minutes later, Q is invited to join him in a cramped living room. The mystery girl is also there. She smiles but says nothing, even after I introduce myself. Doherty, meanwhile, falls over an armchair trying to close the curtains, presumably lest prying paparazzi snap him. He eventually settles, trilby hat on, a salection of necklaces swinging atop a black shirt. What looks like a plastic elephan earring bobs beside his neck whenever he moves. His fingers are grubby, his left hand wrapped in black gaffer tape. His skin is blotchy and clammy. His eyes are wide, pupils like dinner plates. His voice is so feeble, at times it's like talking to an asthmatic on a ventilator.”
From Q Magazine, September issue 2007 interview with Peter:
Are drugs a help or a hindrance to you as a songwriter?
I'd sayd drugs are an alternative to songwriting. It's something else to do rather than playing guitar. Sit down and have a pipe instead. It's not conductive to concentrating and playing and singing.
So whenever you write, you're always straight?
Erm... it's not really a conscious thing. But I tend to not get a lot done when I'm battered.
Audience reaction is important to you?
It started off as the be all and end all of songwriting. Wanting to find the audience and crave it. For a long time it was such a pipe dream. It seemed there was no way in the world we were ever going to get a crowd. And then we reached a point where the crowd were singing the songs back to us and it became to be all and end all again. Like "I can't wait to play this song to a crowd". There's nothing worse that when people say to me, "Oh I really liked what you used to do, what you're doing now is alright". But I know I wouldn't carry on writing unless I could maintain standards.
You've not peaked yet?
No, I'd say the record that's coming out this year (Babyshambles' second album) has got the best songs I've ever written.
So, what's your secret?
Er... (stares at the ceiling) Being lost. Gettng lost and then not being able to ask the way. As my nan always used to say, "As long as you've got that (grabs his tongue), then you can't get lost".
Our chat ends when Doherty is summoned to start his soundcheck in the bar below. Before going, he shakes my hand and asks if I'll write something in his notebook. I agree on condition he scribbles something in mine. We swap notebooks. In his, I draw a set of dentures, sign my name and add, "Not such nice teeth, really". An hour later, long after we've said goodbye, I finally check what he's written. It begins with a quote from another Smiths song, Rubber Ring. "Don't forget the songs that made you cry... that line always made me well up.".”

Pete threw his vintage guitar into the audience when it failed to work, then brought out a bunch of roses in a Morrissey-esque fashion - he was far from the automaton of past gigs. Doherty even poked fun at his own self-image - something that he's presumably been too smacked up to do before - saying prior to closer 'Fuck Forever': "That's about your lot, that's all you'll get. Can we get paid now?"”

From Q Magazine, September issue 2007 interview with Peter:
“Your new song, The Lost Art Of Murder. Was that inspired by George Orwell's Decline Of The English Murder?

According to the drummer, the tracks that the band are currently demoing are: ‘Jumping bean,’ ‘I Don't Know That Man,’ ‘Fixing Up (To Go),’ ‘Fireman,’ ‘Revelations,’ ‘Velvet Untitled’ and ‘Maybeline.’”

From NME 21 August 2007 - “Babyshambles are giving their comeback single away for free, exclusively with NME.
The band, who are gearing up to return with their second album 'Shotter's Nation' in the autumn, will return with their first release since 2006 with a special version of 'Delivery'. The song will appear on seven-inch vinyl and will only be available with the issue of NME that's out on September 15.
The single will feature an acoustic version of 'Delivery' recorded at the band's acclaimed Jim + Stookie Bumfest sessions, The Bumfest Demo. Recorded At Turnmills Studios. Engineered by David Parkinson.
Some takes from these recordings have already being devoured by fans online, but this is the first time anything from the sessions has been available officially. The B-side meanwhile, will feature an interview with the band discussing their upcoming album.”
“"It's good to give NME readers the chance to hear 'Delivery' as a raw, stripped-down demo," declared drummer Adam Ficek of the unique release, "and also give an insight into how the song grew, developed and finally emerged into the actual finished album version.””
From Teletext Interview 22 September 2007 by John Earls :
Many Babyshambles demos were online before making the album, but Adam says few of those were of proper songs. "There were 30 ideas, but hardly any songs," he explains. "Peter had great verses, which needed fleshing out. Stephen helped by not putting up with any nonsense. He'd tell Peter 'That lyric could be better', and he made Peter re-do vocals for a whole day, which had never happened to us before."

From French Dog Writtles Forum 18 September 2007 “Went down to visit [Peter] yesterday, out of all the times I have seen him in rehab, I have never, ever seen him in such a lucid determined state. Obviously none of us know what the future holds, but for the first time since I have known him there has been a drastic change in his mind-set, and he can actually envisage a time when he's drug free. Whether or not this time is the final time, who knows, but I can honestly say something has changed for the better in Peter's approach to his life, drugs and babyshambles. Now go and buy Delivery and stop putting stuff up for download. x FICEK ”

September 2007 - Peter is admitted into Wiltshire Clouds Clinic for Rehab
Notes : From Teletext Interview 22 September 2007 by John Earls :
Why is Pete sticking with rehab now?"Because he knows he'll go to prison if he doesn't," Adam admits. "That really has shaken Peter into making an effort. And age has a lot to do with it, I think. He's in his late 20s and he's been on hard drugs a long time. He's bored of them, he knows that to be the artist he's capable of they're not good for him. And whatever the tabloids say, his art matters most to Peter".

27 September 2007 - Peter Doherty is given special permission to leave rehab to meet Paul McCartney.
Officially Released : A series of pod casts were released online. Including an edited pod cast on the blog of The Guardian.co.uk. The pod cast was posted 11 October 2007.
Notes : “Apparently Peter was given a special permission to leave the rehab yesterday because he had to meet no other than Sir Paul McCartney in person. It seems Peter was extremely excited about the meeting. Paul allegedly gave him some hints about music, drugs and women. No pictures yet and no tips about when and where this "interview" is going to be published (if ever).”
From Observer Music Monthly, Sunday Issue, 14 October 2007 :
“The idea has been put to Sir Paul McCartney and out of everyone he could have picked to interview him, he's chosen the Babyshambles singer and tabloid fixture Peter Doherty. Only trouble is, Pete is currently in rehab, but after some tactful negotiations, he is allowed out of his clinic for the afternoon. So it is, with only OMM otherwise present in the hotel suite, that the two sit down to talk one recent Thursday afternoon. But first, Pete wants to give Sir Paul a present ...
Sir Paul: Wow! I'm terrible like that. People are really sort of nice at bringing me things. So someone said: 'Would you like to do an interview? And who would you like to do, and I said: 'Pete'. 'Cause otherwise it's just some real boring person who you're not interested in.
We've met briefly once before, backstage at a Little Britain show, and I'd seen you on the Jonathan Ross Show, which I thought was very cool. To me, there was all the newspaper stuff saying, 'He's out, he's out of it,' so I was like, 'He's going to miss a few notes here,' but you were spot-on; really nailed the piece you were playing.
Pete: Yeah, I remember asking you on the stairs at Little Britain about [the Beatles song] 'I Will'. I just love that. A minor, D minor.
Pete: I heard you wrote 'Michelle' to pull girls ...
Sir Paul: Yeah, we used to go to these art school parties because John was at art school and me and George were at the school next door, which is now a performing arts school. John was that little bit older than us, which at that age is impressive. He was a year-and-a-half older than me and you really look up to people like that. But it's funny because I don't think I had that same feeling with Ringo, who I think was a few months older than John.

Notes : From Daily Music Guide.COM 4 January 2008
“Adam Ficek Interview - The media’s talked about Shotter's Nation being a lot more cleanly produced than Down in Albion. Was this a conscious choice?
Adam: It wasn’t a conscious choice. If you’re going to make a good album I think a producer like Stephen Street was always going to make an album slightly more glossy than Down in Albion. Mick Jones has got his way of producing. And at the time I think there was a lot of raw emotions flowing about in Down in Albion; the band was pretty raw: prison sentences, deaths and all sorts. So it was different, Shotter's Nation was all more together. Stephen’s got a different way of producing, and without him cracking the whip it wouldn’t have sounded like it did.
And there’s some great tracks on Shotter's Nation. Personally, what’s your favourite track that you enjoy playing on the tour?
Adam: Unstookie Titled and UnBiloTitled are my favourites, because I wrote them”
Which of your previous two albums do you prefer?
Adam: They’re both kind of...it’s like two children, isn’t it? You can’t have a favourite! Down in Albion was a picture of where we were at at the time. Shotter's Nation is a slightly more glossy picture of where we were at at the time. I think the songs were more formed during Shotter's Nation, but then Down in Albion’s got a certain raw chant to it which I think is going to be quite timeless. So I don’t know, they’re both loved for different reasons. “
From Teletext Interview 22 September 2007 by John Earls
"We knew after Down In Albion got a kicking we had to prove people wrong," says Adam Ficek. "We had to deliver an undeniably great album, and we have."
A large part of the new album's focus is down to new producer Stephen Street.
"He made us work regular hours, 11am to 8pm," says drummer Adam. "I was all in favour - I'm organised, or at least I am compared to the others! It was tough for the first week, until they realised that it made the music better. Before, we'd book a studio and come in when we felt like it, so we'd only get stuff done in bits and pieces."

08 October 2007 - The Sun Inn, Marlborough, Wiltshire
From TheSun.CO.UK “The Babshambles singer gave an impromptu performance at the Sun Inn in the quaint Wiltshire town of Marlborough. Pete – whose band went to No5 in the album charts yesterday with Shotter’s Nation – was only released from the nearby Clouds clinic on Thursday.
And he couldn’t resist nipping to his new local to celebrate with a few pints of Guinness. An onlooker said: “It was a normal Saturday night until Pete rocked up. “As soon as word got out, the place was packed and people were begging him to sing. “He was asking for pints of Guinness as he paused between the tracks and was kissing all the girls who asked for one. “It was a really great atmosphere.””

Brilliant!”

Notes : CD features Baby shambles “Stone Me - What A Life!”
From NME Magazine 20 October 2007 “The B-Side to recent single Delivery might be overlooked in today’s age of digital downloads. That‘d be a shame, so here it is.” Peter Doherty commented “I don’t think you have to be a particularly developed human being intellectually or spiritually to despises racism. It may be easy to be complacent, but we need to encourage people to fight racism whether with words or actions. Count me in - I‘ll fight.”
CD also features Helsinki “Ampersand” From NME Magazine 20 October 2007 “With Drew McConnell, Seb Roachford and Fionn Regan contributing to this super group of sorts, the outcome - a sublime and soulful reggae shuffle classic - was wonderfully predictable.”

Officially Released: Delivery was made available as a free download via the MTV Gonzo website 24 November 2007.
Notes: We Are Scientists were the original headliners for the Scotland show but pulled out. The gonzo broadcast censors the set for broadcast
From MTV.CO.UK. “Pete Doherty has hit Scotland in style with a very special secret gig for MTV Two’s Gonzo Tour. The notorious frontman and Babyshambles played their smallest show in years at the Glasgow Barfly running through much of their new album Shotter’s Nation. Doherty was not announced as the headliner for the final Gonzo 5th Birthday Tour gig - though many fans seemed to know the band were in town. Looking healthier than ever the frontman wrecked the stage at the end of the set, the group also sounded better than during previous shambolic shows. The four-piece played a 45-minute starting with Delivery- their current single- and fitting in old favourites like Kilamanjaro and a raucous F*ck Forever. Before being interviewed by Zane Lowe Babyshambles typically caused problems by becoming locked on their bus. Luckily Pete- sporting new red hair- and the gang escaped to play a mental show to the 200 baying punters.”

From The Observer / The Guardian review 25 November 2007 by Kitty Empire “It's the opening night of Babyshambles' arena tour. The place is half empty. Curtains shield off the upper levels; the rear eight banks of seats are covered, too. According to the record company, two other dates - Brighton and Bournemouth - are sold out, and Wembley is about to. Still, though: tumbleweed blows around behind the mixing desk.”
From Teletext Interview 23 September 2007 by John Earls
Adam Ficek on the upcoming arena tour "It’s a statement of confidence,” says Adam. “We’ve let people down by cancelling gigs before. This is us saying that those days are over, that we know we can’t muck about any more. We prefer intimate venues, but this shows that we’re popular enough to play them, and that we’re good enough too.” ”
Fans Say “old style english stuff such as old fashioned maxboxes covering the amps. On the screen in the backfround they had all sorts of old fashioned picture , with many newpaper cuttings and such from the war. It was really a good set and when they played Fuck Forever at the end about 6 massive Union Jacks dropped from the top of the set”

22 November 2007 - The Castle Pub, Manchester # Peter Doherty Solo Acoustic
“Elvis Medley” / You Talk
Notes: Surprise Peter Doherty Solo Acoustic performance. Elvis Medley is a selection of excerpts from Elvis Presley songs which the audience requested.
From Daily Star Newspaper / Website “The Babyshambles frontman, 28, played for the “crowd” of 16 people after his brilliant performance with his band at the MEN arena –but then welled up with tears in his eyes. The musician turned up at The Castle pub in the trendy Northern Quarter to chill out after his superb stint on stage and received a warm welcome to say the least. An insider said:
“There were around 16 people gathered in the pub when Pete arrived with some of his friends.
“One of the guys drinking there commented on the fact Pete had a guitar with him.
“Pete explained who he was and that he had just been performing with Babyshambles.
“And before anyone knew it, Pete passed some cash behind the bar and told the bar staff to let the regular punters have whatever they wanted to drink.?
“He only wanted a lemonade, though”
And if that wasn’t nice enough, Pete even took song requests from the crowd.
Our mole added: “Some guys wanted a few Elvis tracks played and Pete obliged. He was on great form.
“When he was applauded after playing, he took off his trilby as a way of saying thanks to his audience. “He even gave them a private rendition of his new single You Talk.
“But after being there around an hour, he suddenly seemed a bit down in the dumps. “His mobile phone rang and he looked at the number to see who was ringing.? But he suddenly seemed seriously lost in thought and he went all quiet. “All he said was he had to go and his eyes welled up with tears. “So he said good night and left.? And that was that.” The former boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss, 33, then headed off into the night. “

“Hello. I'm currently sat in the BIC production office waiting to play our fourth date of the tour, which finds us in Bournemouth. We played Brighton last night and Newcastle before that. It's been great so far. Dizzie Rascal and the Jing Jang Jongalongs have been on form too. Highlight of the set for me tends to be Unstookie-titled. When we get that one right it kind of sends me into a trance, like the music is moving in circles. Erm ... I know what I mean. Having Lord Large playing with us has been great, but he's off on tour with Squeeze. Terrible shame. Hopefully some youth called Shamus is coming to play tomorrow at Wembley. Wembley! Babyshambles? Wembley!? Who woulda thunk it? Today I watched Mick apply moisturiser to his toothbrush and scrub his teeth for about two minutes before he realised. His face was a picture. On that bombshell... ta ra. Drew”

26 November 2007 - Peter Doherty Solo Album Update.
From NME.COM 26 November 2007 “Pete Doherty is a quarter of the way through recording his debut solo album and plans to release it next summer, NME.COM can exclusively reveal.
Three of the album's 12 tracks have been completed during secret recording sessions with producer Jake Foir. Foir told NME.COM: "We're recording it piecemeal between two studios in London. We go in for two or three hours at a time, usually at about two in the morning, and get stuff down. It sounds slower and more intimate [than Babyshambles] Pete's writing is more universal, rather than about personal experiences".
Foir explained that a large cast of musicians will appear alongside Pete, including his Babyshambles bandmates, who play on the track 'Cuckoo'.
South London band The Thirst, who visited Doherty at his Wiltshire home to demo with him, will also contribute, along with London rapper Klashnekoff.
Although recording for the album is well underway, Babyshambles' label, Parlophone, could halt its release. Foir explained that the plan is to finish the album then present it to the label with a view to an official release, but he says that so far Parlophone have been unhappy about Doherty recording outside of their control.
Foir was also able to reassure fans that, despite his heroin relapse, the Babyshambles mainman is "still on top form", healthy and enjoying life in rural Wiltshire. "I just spent a weekend with him - just me, him and the cats," he recalled. "He's out there in a 28-room mansion - it's very '60s-style and cool, I keep expecting Marianne Faithfull to come walking through one of the doors!”. “

Officially Released: You Talk is released as a U.K. Download.
Notes : Mick sings I Wish.
From UNCUT.CO.UK. “the crackly theme to Hancock’s Half Hour comes over the PA and Babyshambles make a punctual appearance.” “Frankly, there are moments when a lot more spit and a great deal less polish would have made the evening more exciting – and seeing Pete, largely just standing there, pasty-faced, in figure-hugging black top and trousers, flanked by the similarly static Mick Whitnall and Drew McConnell, I do yearn for the more bonkers frolics of yore – some element of rowdy recklessness that’s missing here.” Happy Birthday is sang during Fuck Forever and is dedicated to Peter’s sister Emily Doherty. Support Included : Dizze Rascal & Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong
Interview For Daily Music Guide.COM with Adam Ficek is published 4 January 2008 includes “You just performed your penultimate gig; how are you feeling about that? Relieved or excited?
Adam: A mixture of both really, a bit tired. We don’t really rehearse or practise, so when we have tours of this level it knocks you for six.”
“Adam Ficek Interview What’s the best gig you’ve played so far in the tour?
Adam: Wembley Arena in London, because it’s our home town. It’s got a lot of specialness attached to it. It’s nice to be able to do it. It’s good to be in a band where you can do that kind of stuff, yet still go and play 50-capacity pubs. So yeah it’s been good to stretch our wings a bit that way but we’ll always go back to playing small venues. ”
Out of all the things you’ve done in Babyshambles what do you think will be your defining moment?
“Adam: I think recently, Wembley Arena. Everyone doubted us and thought we were gonna go there and fall on our arses. Wembley was great; it was like the pinnacle of the tour for us. That and Glasgow. The thing is, you go up to Scotland and everyone wants to have a good time. Scotland’s gonna be the maximum amount of people we’re going to play to. But Scottish people are always there to have a good time, whereas in London there are a lot of people there waiting for you to fall and to attack; especially certain musical publications in this country ... who are always misquoting, and always paraphrasing, and they should be fucking taken to the cleaners. “

Notes : From icBirmingham.icnetwork.co.uk “Troubled Pete Doherty has banned booze from his tour bus and is turning to Chinese meditation to get him back on the straight and narrow.
And it seems to have worked, as he put in a strong performance, proving just how talented he is.
There was no slurring, no late appearance or bad behaviour last night. In fact, Pete was being so good, he didn't even light up the cigarette hanging from his mouth.” “Wearing black jeans and a jumper…” “His soft husky tones revitalised a cover of Culture Club's Karma Chameleon, intermingled with tracks from Delivery to The Blinding and Killamangiro. Pete was so on the ball that he even changed the words to Down In Albion to "down at Digbeth Irish Centre" and gave a shout out to Birmingham's famous Mr Egg cafe. The finale of anthemic Forever saw British flags drop from the ceiling above a sea of waving arms and reminded fans of this band's place in the Brit music scene. For once with Pete Doherty, the music came first and there was nothing else to overshadow his abilities.”

From Daily Music Guide.COM 14 January 2008 - “Pete Doherty claims the band are "skint" after losing thousands of pounds playing eight big venues late last year, including a half-empty opening night at Manchester MEN Arena. A spokesman for the band said “the band didn't lose money on those gigs”. But insiders say the band have the theatre tour planned to make up for a shortfall. They stated that paying their support acts, staff wages, and hiring articulated lorries for their gear have left them at a loss. The rocker said "On their next tour they will stick to the smaller venues they are used to filling out." “

FROM Daily Music Guide.COM “Pete Doherty had enjoyed an afternoon shopping in the French capital. He purchased a kitten from a pet shop which he doted over before heading to the venue. "It’s been an absolute belter," Doherty said before the gig, referring to the tour, "and that's the first time I've used that word since I left rehab."
“Babyshambles suffered minor technical problems as they began their set in front of a sell-out crowd, with the band members having problems with their monitors. Carry On Up the Morning and Delivery had to be re-started as the problems were fixed.”
“UnStookietitled the fans bombarded Doherty with cigarettes, a reference to the lyric "smoking cigarettes down to the bone"”
“The band also performed three new songs. Babyshambles played Pretty Sue, a song which debuted a few weeks previously at London's Rhythm Factory venue, plus the White Stripes-esque Boy David and Babyshambles Instrumental. ”
“It was a strange gig," bassist Drew McConnell told a reporter after the show. "There were some serious monitor problems so we could only hear ourselves. But it was sorted out and we got in the swing of it and it was great." ”

11 July 2008 - Catch 22, Upstairs Room, Shoreditch * Big Dave gig
Notes : Big Dave features Patrick Walden. Big Dave are a trio which includes drummer Seb Rochford, bassist Ruth Goller (from Acoustic Ladyland) and Patrick Walden taking the lead singer & guitarists position. From UNCUT.CO.UK “There can’t be more than 100 people here, if there are in fact that many.” “This is still early days for the band, but there’s an album being recorded with more dates to follow.” “A couple of months ago, I was given a DVD of one of Big Dave’s early shows, somewhere in north-east London, out towards Walthamstow or somewhere, I think. My first impression was that the band had simply turned up, plugged in and started jamming, not always with a unified purpose. It all seemed a bit too pointlessly freeform, a noisy unravelling, Pat with his back to the audience – or what there was of one – scrabbling away at his guitar while Rochford thundered somewhat fussily on drums”
